Historic Brevard

North Carolina

The Main Street Historic District

Brevard is a small town tucked away in the western mountains of North Carolina, about a half hour south of Asheville.  Much of the downtown area has been designated as a National Historic District.

The Main Street Historic District contains close to forty buildings and properties with a history dating back to the day that the Civil War began.  Transylvania County and Brevard were both formed on the same day.

This site has been created to share the history of the town, with emphasis on the buildings in the Main Street historic district.  You'll find not only detailed information about properties and structures but also details about the resources available to explore the area's history on your own.

Sections on the site include About, Town History, Research, Maps, and Buildings.  You can access the contents of any section by expanding the menus at the top of the page.  Also, don't forget the menu's Search option. It'll scan not only this site, but will also include Transylvania County's web site historical data and the Transylvania County Library's local history blogs. Bonus pages will always be included under Extras.
